Matthew Prince Buys Town Lift Plaza and Eyes Ownership of Park City Mountain
Billionaire Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, has purchased the Town Lift Plaza at the base of Park City Mountain from the Sweeney family for an undisclosed amount, with the deal expected to close soon. The acquisition includes key commercial spaces, retail frontages on Main Street, parking spots in the underground garage, and the Town Lift Plaza deck. Prince, a former ski instructor, has expressed interest in upgrading the lift to improve access to the mountain and has discussed the possibility of replacing the Town Lift with a gondola, potentially connecting Main Street directly to Alta and Solitude for a 22-minute ride, similar to European resorts. He has also held discussions with Vail Resorts about acquiring Park City Mountain, which he criticizes for its declining management and perceived neglect of the mountain. Prince's vision involves revitalizing Main Street and enhancing transportation infrastructure to boost local tourism and community engagement. He also owns The Park Record newspaper and supports ongoing municipal efforts to improve public spaces and competitiveness of Main Street.
