Avantae Williams Arrested for Murder in Florida Bar Shooting
Former college football star Avantae Williams, aged 24, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting at McCabe's Bar in DeLand, Florida. The incident occurred early Saturday morning after a fight inside the bar, which escalated when Williams produced a firearm and opened fire. The shooting resulted in the death of 32-year-old Keshod Harris, who was struck multiple times, and injured a bartender. Witnesses reported that jealousy and a previous argument contributed to the altercation, with Harris and Williams involved in a physical fight before the shooting. Surveillance footage shows Williams fleeing the scene in a BMW SUV, and evidence from his phone indicated he had looked up Harris's Instagram account shortly before the shooting. Williams turned himself in to police on May 5 and is currently held without bond. He previously played for Miami Hurricanes and Maryland Terrapins, was once the top safety recruit nationally, and was dismissed from Miami in 2021 after an assault charge but later reinstated. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about violence linked to personal disputes and former athletes.
